WHAT IS UNDERWRITING?
Underwriting is an announcement made on public broadcasting outlets in exchange for funds. Underwriting is similar to advertising in that it helps get the word out about your business and/or organization, but there are some restrictions about the language we can use. Your underwriting contributions are also considered federally tax deductible donations.
Underwriting acknowledgements can:
inform new people about your business, where it is located, and what you do
inform new and current customers about events and happenings at your business or organization
let your customers know that you are invested in the well-being of Bellingham’s arts and music community
Underwriting acknowledgements can’t:
make a call to action, such as “You should go buy Bob’s apples right now!”
make a value or comparison statement, like “Bob’s apples are the best apples in the world. They’re way better than Billy’s apples!”
WHO DOES MY UNDERWRITING REACH?
KZAX’s FM listenership reaches from Bellis Fair to Boulevard Park in Bellingham. In 2023, KZAX broadcasted 45 different programs, 27 of which focused on local music. In 2020, KZAX had 7,994 unique online streams via RadioRethink and TuneIn, with an average of 5-15 listeners and a peak online listenership of 45 unique streams. As of 2024, KZAX has a social media following of nearly 3,500 (@kzaxradio on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok), and a strong local presence in the Bellingham music scene.
